Customer story · Fintech (cross-border payments)
Xflowpay sells cross-border payments infrastructure to CFOs at Indian companies that bill internationally, an audience no database can filter for. A hand-built list, problem-first messaging and deliberately low volume produced 15 demos with senior CFOs and $1.8M in monthly transaction volume in pipeline.

Challenge
Reaching senior CFOs about a high-risk switch, with an audience no data provider can filter
Xflowpay is a cross-border payments platform. It sells to founders and finance leaders at Indian companies that bill internationally, and the decision sits with the CFO.
Senior CFOs are among the hardest personas in B2B to reach. They sit behind gatekeepers and have no tolerance for generic outreach.
Even a CFO who reads the email is being asked to consider something risky. Switching payment infrastructure carries real operational risk, so the bar for a first conversation is high.
A message that reads like a sales pitch fails that bar straight away. A message that shows it understands the finance function's problem at least earns a hearing.
“$1.8M in monthly transaction volume generated. Two deals closed at $350K MTV. RevFirst didn't hand over leads and disappear, they stayed in the deals until both closed.”
Anurag Deo
Account Executive, Xflowpay
The usual first step, pulling a list from a data provider, did not work here. Cross-border billing is not a filterable attribute on any database, so the audience could not be bought.
RevFirst built the target list by hand instead. That took longer, but it meant every account on the list was there because it fit the profile, not because a filter roughly approximated it.
Outreach was written around the CFO's actual problem: the cost and control of international payments. It did not lead with Xflowpay's product.
With a risk-averse buyer, that order matters. A CFO is more likely to engage with a sharper view of a problem they already own than with a vendor's feature list.
Volume outreach actively damages credibility with this buyer, so more sending was never an option. RevFirst kept send volume deliberately low, because with this persona one bad email closes the door permanently.
The reply rate showed the trade-off working. Outreach earned a 4.33% reply rate against a 2% industry benchmark, more than double.

A reply from a CFO is not yet an opportunity. Before booking, RevFirst qualified each prospect on real transaction volume, so demos were with buyers who could actually move.
That produced 15 demos with senior CFOs and $1.8M in monthly transaction volume in pipeline. RevFirst stayed involved after the handover, and 2 deals closed at $350K in monthly transaction volume.

What this shows
Some audiences cannot be bought from a list and will not tolerate volume. RevFirst researched the accounts by hand, wrote to the buyer's real problem, kept sending low and qualified before booking. Fewer, better conversations with buyers who could actually move.
